The mission to make South African roads safer has reached a major milestone! Drive More Safely NPO (DMS) is thrilled to announce its official status as the custodian and exclusive owner of the Project EDWARD brand in South Africa, granted directly by the Project EDWARD UK team.
This is more than a title – it’s a critical step in unifying national road safety efforts under a globally recognized banner. Moving forward, DMS is the single point of authority for the brand, ensuring that all Project EDWARD SA activities are coordinated, credible, and impactful. Any organization wishing to collaborate under the Project EDWARD name must partner with us.
Our Story Takes the Global Stage
To mark this significant development, Project EDWARD UK launched its new worldwide podcast series, “My Role In the Safe System,” and chose South Africa to lead the conversation.
We are incredibly proud that our own founder, Alida Venter, was the inaugural guest on the podcast, sharing the deeply personal journey that birthed the Drive More Safely movement and led to the establishment of Project EDWARD SA.

The “My role in the Safe System” background – Project Edward UK
The campaign promotes an evidence-led, ‘safe system’ approach – the long-term objective of which is a road traffic system free from death and serious injury.
The five components of the Safe System are:
- Safe Roads – Safety-conscious road planning, design and engineering
- Safe Vehicles – Promoting vehicles with collision avoidance & injury mitigation systems
- Safe Speeds – Managing speeds to crash survival levels
- Safe Road Users – Deterring dangerous behaviour and ensuring compliance: education & enforcement
- Post-Crash Response – Fast and efficient emergency medical help, diagnosis and care
